NASA Confirms Tom Cruise Will Shoot Film in Space
Tom Cruise, known for performing a variety of dangerous stunts himself, is taking his talents to new heights with plans to shoot a film aboard the International Space Station.
NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine confirmed the news on Tuesday via tweet.
“NASA is excited to work with @TomCruise on a film aboard the @Space_Station!” the tweet read. “We need popular media to inspire a new generation of engineers and scientists to make @NASA’s ambitious plans a reality.”
Given Cruise’s reputation for undertaking daring stunts — such as flying a helicopter for Mission: Impossible - Fallout — there was speculation that the actor might someday attempt to partially shoot a film in space. According to a report by Deadline, Elon Musk is also involved in the upcoming project with his company, Space X.
The untitled film is reportedly not a part of the Mission: Impossible franchise and is not affiliated with any studio at this stage, so it may be a while before we actually get to see it.
Drive-in Theaters to Reopen in Bay Area
Movie-going has ground to a halt thanks to the wide shutdowns in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, but one of the nation’s hardest-hit areas is seeing a handful of drive-in theaters open their doors.
West Wind Drive-In Theaters opened four theaters in California on Monday, albeit under strict social distancing guidelines. The small chain requires patrons to stay in their cars except when visiting the restroom and vehicles must be parked at least 10 feet apart. Snack bars at the theaters will remain closed for the time being.
Drive-in theaters across the country have seen increased interest due to the coronavirus and could remain the primary outlet for moviegoers for the foreseeable future.
ABC 7 in California reported seeing lines outside the drive-in theaters. For now, West Wind Drive-In Theaters is playing titles released theatrically earlier in this year, as well as a few that were released directly to video-on-demand, such as Trolls: World Tour, The Invisible Man and The Hunt.
